I include basic search engine optimization with any site I design. This means that I'll include keywords and other relevant meta tags tailored to suit your needs, plus robots.txt files to make sure search engines don't index anything that shouldn't be indexed. Some artists, for example, may not want their works to be included in image searches. In that case, a robots.txt file could be used to keep search engine spiders from crawling the art directory. Other SEO measures I employ include ALT tags for images, sensible navigation, and using Flash judiciously. Any text included in a Flash file can't be read by current search engine spiders, which means it can't be used to boost your page ranking. There are other design-based techniques I use as well, but those are some of the most common.
I can't guarantee your site will be number one on Google, but I can guarantee that it will be ready for indexing when Google finds it.
